2 scionix 38b57 comparison

Hello everybody, i want to share with you this comparison i made between 2 Scionix 38B57 E1 detectors, the first has a bad resolution, around 8,5% @ 662KeV due to some wet in the crystal. Recently I had the opportunity to refurbish another detetector, this time the things are different, i obtained a...

Re: Spark gap without gamma ray

If you want a nice and really hot cs137 tube look on the bay for "TG 36 tube" from US.. I recently bought one of those and believe me, the custom to Italy was a 11€ charge but it worth the extra money.

Re: Spark gap without gamma ray

Hello Peter,
cs137 has a half life time of about 30 years, if the tube was produced in early 50's means that the radioactive amount is now less then 1/4 of the original, maybe it's just to weak to be measured.

Re: Hello everybody

I didn't know it was possible to clean a crystal after it was coupled to the pmt, so now comes the easy part, i just need a glove box and try to not break everything! I'm joking off course, i still have many more test to do with my detector before trying to clean it. Above all it performs well enoug...

Re: Hello everybody

Ah ok.. :(
Luuk, This let me think about the operative life of a crystal, for how long they work good?
In my specific case, as my detector is used it's an issue of time or how the probe was used?
Thank you

Re: Hello everybody

Hi Luuk, thank you for your reply, the cs137 spectrum i posted was made with "resolution compensation" on theremino. I just made a new onen without compensation. Does it look better? The fwmh is now +2%, a big difference, do you think i should work more on the voltage divider? Now i use 20M between ...

Hello everybody

Hello folks, I'm Mattia Beninati from Italy, i'm always been interested in radiations and i started gamma spectroscopy since Agoust with a Theremino pmt adapter and a Ludlum 44-3 LEG probe from my Ludlum 3 ratemeter, wich introduced me in radiation measurement 2 years ago. After a few trials i get t...
