Monte Carlo Efficiency Calculation: Offer

Howdy Ive recently been working with Monte Carlo simulations as part of another hobby and can probably use them for estimating detector efficiencies. If anyone is interested as an experiment, if they have a detector for which they have schematics and a source in a beaker or something (not a point so...

Portable shield for 3x3" NaI

I made a Shield recently for a 3x3" NaI which was intended to be "portable" (at least less than baggage limits on flights). The old lead was to be cast in a form made from steel ventilation ducting. An outer and inner tube were set in a baking tin full of plaster of paris to make the mould. This was...

Re: In-situ CdZnTe Spectra from Belarus

Hei Alain Belarus has adopted a different approach to Ukraine in their management of contaminated sites and are somewhat stricter. I did recording near the Ukrainian border about 15 km from the plant itself. The deposition is very heterogenous and varies wildly over short distances. Densities about ...

SPECON Converter

This a is a spectrum converter I have used for a number of years. Its old but works for a number of formats and I dont know if it works on modern Windows versions like 10 or 7. Its especially handy for older formats and as many hobbyists use older equipment it may be convenient for converting spectr...

Re: OpenGamma

OpenGamma is not a spectrum acquisition program - it doesnt acquire data. It just analyses spectra acquired by instruments. Like Fitzpeaks or whatever. To be fair the spectral formats it opens are fairly limited (4 types -.chn, .iec, .cnf and csv types). If you cannot acquire spectra in those format...

OpenGamma

OpenGamma is an open source spectrum analyser that I downloaded a while back (https://sourceforge.net/projects/opengamma/). Documentation is very limited but it seems to do normal spectrum analysis functions (peak analysis, identification, quantification) and can open the usual formats (Ortec standa...

In-situ CdZnTe Spectra from Belarus

Here are a couple of in-situ spectra taken with a 1 cc CdZnTe detector over lands contaminated by Chernobyl in Belarus. Detector unshielded, suspended 1 m over the surface. Fairly standard Cs-137 spectra but a nice resolution from the detector even though its very small and not as efficient as a lar...
