Re: Maralingite
Hi there all, I live in Adelaide and work for the geological survey of south Australia. I’m very familiar with airborne spectra gathered over the maralinga area and have often joked about the existence af “Maralingaite” as a pun on trinitite. After the post I will chase our geologists and see if the...

Re: Menzenschwand, Germany
Hi guys Abilene could be correct. The black mineral is possibly uraninite / pitchblende or davidite. The yellow green flakes could be autunite - which Fluoresces a bright green with SW MW and LW ultraviolet lights. It could also be torbenite - or metatorbenite. This mineral doesn’t fluoresce and is ...

Re: The Most Radioactive Room in My House
Hi Massimo
I know my calibration was a bit off, I used only a quick Cs
Source. I plan to run it again in the next few days but do a better calibration with either a thorium mantle or a radium card.
Thanks for your comments, much appreciated,
Cheers and regards
Gary

Re: The Most Radioactive Room in My House
I have read with interest this post from Go-Figure, so decided to run a preliminary experiment of my own. The results are shown below, and the next step is to enhance the lower energy levels. As a background, our house was built in the 1980's above the Willunga Slate quarry in South Australia. The b...

Let me know more off your tests.
I’ve been thinking of getting one for ages - and the price is obviously very good😊

Puzzling N.O.R.M. Spectra
Greetings all, I have recently collected a few spectra of N.O.R.M specimens collected within South Australia. Some of the results are for me very puzzling so I have posted them with the hope that somebody can provide an answer. Firstly, the spectra were collected using a Bicron NaI probe, a GS-1100 ...

USB external sound cards
Hi All, If anyone is like me and is struggling with a Windows Surface pro with no line in jack, or a laptop with one input jack which double as either a microphone or headphone, of like me, you have one of each. Then an external USB soundcard is the way to go. If you require a cheap but reliable dev...
