Re: Brannerite from Piemonte, Italy.
I learned a new one, thanks :) This one has been sent to me by a person who's involved with a mineralogy paper on a number of uranium ores samples and he wants to include my spectra in it. This is the first of the two. The bonus was that, once he got the spectra, he was so happy he told me to keep ...

Brannerite from Piemonte, Italy.
Hello there, hope everybody's fine. Today I report on a measurement I did some time ago on a sample of Brannerite, from a valley in Piemonte, northerwestern region of Italy. 01 - DSC01382R.jpg The sample looked reasonably good, although nothing spectacular, the hot part is the “black stuff” and the ...

Re: Uraninite from Piemonte - Sample 2
Massimo, I always enjoy reading your reports, so professional. Your spectra are also perfectly smooth, I guess this is because you are subtracting a very long 24 hour background spectrum. Thanks for sharing. Steven Yeah, I remember when doing a 6 hour measurement during the weekend felt like a very...

Uraninite from Piemonte - Sample 2
Hello there, Here I am to report on the second Uraninite specimen from Valle Antrona, Piemonte, a northwestern region of Italy. You can read about the first one here https://www.gammaspectacular.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=904&sid=d641953981ca55ea62e696c85b3e0954 I took a while to post th...

Thanks Steven,Sesselmann wrote: ↑23 Feb 2021, 09:38Massimo,
Nice mineral specimen and nicely documented experiment (as always).
Steven
Yeah, I started with this one because it really looks good, although the other one is way hotter. More on that shortly.

Uraninite from Piemonte - Sample 1
Hello there, I got myself two new samples to test, they’re two Uraninite specimens from Valle Antrona, Piemonte, a northwestern region of Italy. Here I show results from the first sample, which is the better looking, although the other one is by far the hotter of the two. Uraninite, also known as Pi...

Re: Cs137 in biomass pelletized wood ash
Nice one Ciro, this is something I've never thought about.
I don't use pelletized wood for heating, but maybe I can get myself some! :)

Re: K40 Confusion - Mislabelled?
As far as I am concerned, if the sample is hot enough and it doesn't have some K40 in itself, the Potassium peak from my background is dwarfed to insignificance with my 2''x2'' NaI(Tl). There are three more Th232 progeny peaks I usually identified and I think I can see then in your spectrum as well,...

Re: Lanthanum 100g 99.9% (with significant Ac227) contamination
Here is a spectrum of 100g of pure Lanthanum metal that @Gigabequerel and I ordered from Onyxmet. The expected La138 peaks are there, along with Ac227 peaks. I believe is due to the chemical similarity of Actinium and Lanthanum and so it gets caught in the separation process. Lanthanium is somethin...
