USGS Geochemical and Mineralogical Maps

Hello everyone, I recently discovered this work by Smith et al. who mapped the soil geochemistry and mineralogy at 4857 sites evenly distributed across the continental US. Measurements were made not only at the surface, but the subsurface as well. https://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2017/5118/index.html You c...

Re: Scionix 38B57 calibration and linearity

That makes sense. Gain is not really a problem anyway, the spectrum looks the same at low voltage and linearity is improved, so it's a win for me.

Re: Pulse shape issue in PRA 24

I tried to uncheck boxes both before and after (i.e., 5 before and 5 after), but the same issue comes up anyway. I have tried with different sampling rates too.
Again, this is not an real problem for me at the moment, I can easily use the full pulse width, but it has been puzzling me for a while now.

Re: Scionix 38B57 calibration and linearity

The divider was refurbished by iRad, it should be 120 MOhm.

Pulse shape issue in PRA 24

The issue I'm having is simple: if I uncheck boxes in the pulse shape settings window, the checked boxes are automatically set to other values. I'm following the instructions from this post by Steven: https://www.gammaspectacular.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=495#p2334 No issues if I leave all boxe...

Re: Scionix 38B57 calibration and linearity

Thanks for the feedback, Steven. Yesterday I tried to bring down the voltage to 550 V, linearity has improved a little bit although I had to up the gain 2x. This time I also added the 2104 keV single escape peak to the calibration, it looks like the linearity is very good all the way up to this ener...

Scionix 38B57 calibration and linearity

Hello everyone, I'm really new to gamma spectroscopy and would like to share the results of my first few experiments. I welcome and appreciate any suggestions that you may have to improve my setup and operations. I wasn't sure if this was the right topic to post, please correct me if I'm wrong. My d...

Hello there!

Hello everyone, my name is Steve. I'm a recent graduate from Texas, I've been interested in radiation detection for a long time, but I discovered the realm of gamma spectroscopy only a few weeks ago. I'll be posting some spectra soon, I need some help identifying some of them. In the meantime, thank...
