Re: Testing of a Modified GS-STANDUP

Andrey,

It is better to do a search for pewter. There seem to be a lot of good suppliers of pewter in the UK. I once bought sheets of "Tin" on eBay and ended up with tin plated steel.

Re: Uraninite from Piemonte - Sample 2

Massimo,

I always enjoy reading your reports, so professional. Your spectra are also perfectly smooth, I guess this is because you are subtracting a very long 24 hour background spectrum.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Detector Resolution Estimation and Discrepancy

Andrey, Download Interspec and do a comparison between PRA and Theremino. https://www.gammaspectacular.com/blue/software-downloads/interspec-software Interspec only imports text files so you need to record the spectra in PRA or Theremino, then export the spectrum as a text file. This will define whi...

Re: Detector Resolution Estimation and Discrepancy

Andrey, The two programs use a very different methods to discriminate pulses, so it is possible that they both calculate resolution correctly . You are using a software MCA, so even though both programs receive the same digital waveform, they measure and calculate the wave height differently. First ...

Re: Hello from Seattle Washington U.S.A

Hello Jamie, Thanks for the intro. Good luck with your journey into the nucleus of gamma spectrometry, fascinating science, I never cease to be amazed by the conversion of mass to energy. Shout out if you run into any technical difficulties, and do keep us posted by sharing your experiments and outc...

Re: 2 pi gas glow proportional counter

Lukas,

I have an Argon cylinder in my workshop, but Argon is heavy, maybe the salad bowl needs to be upside down?

Re: 2 pi gas glow proportional counter

Hey, this looks like a nice project, well done...

The super thin wire is hardly visible in the photo, but I can just make it out as a time loop.

Pretty sure we have some stainless steel bowls like that in the kitchen, maybe my wife won't notice if one is missing :)

Forum connection issues

Hi Guys,

I have noticed a few times lately that the forum displays a connection error, something like please try again later. Has anyone else noticed this?

After clicking refresh a couple of times it usually works, but I will be looking into the reason, so in the mean time just be patient.

Ben,

Nice result, nice how Interspec gives so much more information about what we are seeing, it gives that extra confidence and explains why some peaks appear wider etc.
