Check and update your links to gammaspectacular.com
Bloggers and Webmasters, Google informs me that there are many broken backlinks to my site, probably my fault for changing URL's without adding a 301 redirect. If you manage a blog or a site with backlinks to my site, please do me a favour and check/update the links if necessary. Thanks in advance, ...

Re: Confusion about Compton scattering
Tim, Yes we have to give some credit to Arthur Compton ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Compton ) for figuring this out... The absolute maximum recoil energy given to the electron occurs when θ = 180◦. At this value of θ, Eγ′ = 184keV and Eγ − Eγ′ = 478 keV. This condition shows up as an edge ...

Re: Confusion about Compton scattering
Tim, Essentially all interactions between the gamma and the scintillation crystal is scattering, when a gamma ray hits the crystal all hell breaks loose, but in most cases scattering absorbs all the energy 😱 The Compton plateau is caused by gamma interactions that take place close to the surface if ...

Re: CZT Am 241 Spectrum
Jim, 1000V sounds awfully high for the eV-CZT, I recall playing with these many years ago at around 70V, think it was 700V with a 1:10 divider.I applied a HV of 1000 V

Re: Impulse Executable for Windows
John, Your approach to using Audacity to set the gain is good 👍, the sound card has a dynamic range of around +- 1.2 Volts so if your pulses are clipping at the top, then your gain is too high. Some huge pulses from cosmic rays and other noise will always hit the ceiling but 99% should be within the...

Spectrum sharing...
Hi All, In the recent edition of IMPULSE I included a new feature where users can share spectra with other users, but so far the participation has been weak, a few people have tested it. I thought it would be a neat way to compare detectors and a place for new users to compare their own results with...

Re: Impulse Executable for Windows
In preparation for the release of the new GS-MAX I have been doing further upgrades to Impulse. Not too many changes for those using the Gammaspectacular, but if you are already on the GS-MAX-14 or Atom-Nano devices then the latest version will offer more control. Re: Potassium Chloride Salt - Radioactive Salt
It seems unlikely, although KCl usually doesn't have much activity it usually stands out against the background, but what size scintillator are you using?
Small crystals are almost blind to gamma rays with energy over 1 MeV.
