Re: Monazite (CE) from Madagascar

Massimo,
excellent work, in the end your homemade analysis were very accurate.
The PDS seems to work very well ;-)

Re: Trinitite Sample 2 - From the First Nuclear Bomb Explosion

How many CPS were you getting from the sample? Judging by the spectrum your sample appears more active than mine. I was only getting 2CPS. About 30 CPS, but I don't remember the background inside the lead, I think about 18 CPS, so 12 CPS for the sample. If it helps I remember I got 19 ± 1.4 CPM of ...

Re: Smoke Alarm - Americium 241

I don't know but I think it is due to the detector efficiency at low energies...
In this case the advanced filter works as a zoom, to make PRA showing energies from 0 to 200 keV

Re: Smoke Alarm - Americium 241

Hi Massimo, good work as always.
If it helps, this is my spectra recorded with the same source using a Victoreen LEG with a 1,5 x 0,5" NaI(Tl) crystal.

The peaks are 13.9, 17.7, 23.5 (sum peak of 20.8 e 26.4) and 59.6 keV

another thing I will need to do is to create a Pb castle with copper shielding to cut down the xrays.
This is very important, makes the difference!

Concerning PRA, if you simply click on SETTING -> SAVE SETTINGS, you'll find your current settings as default next time you run PRA.

Re: Dealing with temperature drift in PRA

For the point 1 if I click on SETTING -> SAVE SETTINGS AS, PRA saves the calibration. For the point 2 the only solution I thought is to take spectra in the basement, where the temperature is more constant comparing with the rest of the house. Moreover the background radiation is lower, thanks to the...

Re: Fiestaware (Depleted Uranium)

I'm sorry but I din't checked that part of energies, because I didn't know about the Protactinium :-(
I could try again, maybe with the Uranium glass together the piece of Fiestaware, to have greater activity...

This is my spectrum recorded from a little piece of Fiestaware, about 12-14g.
