Re: Question about check sources

You can find Thorium Nitrate in some old Gas Mantles, but I suggest you not to buy it because these Mantles have a tendency to crumble, and dust could be ingested or inhaled and it would be very dangerous : Th232 is an alpha emitter! Moreover Rn220 is a Th232's daughter, it's not dagerous as Rn222 b...

Re: Starting with theremino -Newbie Question

As Luuk explained here ... f=14&t=475, NaI(Tl) loses linearity under 100KeV, so if you calibrate under this energy peaks at at higher energies will be "out from their places".

Re: Theremino MCA or Beqmoni ?

I agree with you about Theremino's advantages.
IMHO the main lack is the impossibility to calibrate the spectrum with more than just one energy, besides it needs a "smooth" peak to give you a quite real FWHM.

I've never used Beqmoni but i'd like to start to use these days.

Good spectrum and excellent linearity.
That piece of Monazite it very beautiful.

Re: GS-USB-PRO Review – Professional quality in every way!

Hi Steve, good work and nice spectrum! I've always used Theremino MCA with BaseLine Test activated; I've never used the new GS-USB, but I think it could be better to activate it, or at least you can try and see what happens. I don't know the voltage you used, but you can try to lower it and increase...

Re: Old lead

Hi Steve, I don't think 5% antimony could be an issue for shielding, but in addition to that you should also consider the density of the lead shot, the "fill factor". I think that a rolled sheet lead is a more compact solution, to have best shielding with the same space. I would strongly discourage ...

Re: Uranium glass

Hi Peter,
was my attempt with Uranium Glass, I thought that peak was due to Th231 or an escape peak, but Max Gaspa suggested me it was simply XRF.
