Re: Cs137 Italy

Hi Ciro,
Nice spectra still heavenly polluted by Chernobyl.
I still have a sample from north Italy with dried mushrooms, got it from a friend but up till now I never checked it, but seeing your results I must do a test with it for sure!

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector

Hi Ciro,
Yes it is a pity but the only way to detect neutrons can be done by replacing the standard detector by a CsI(Tl)/Lil(Eu) detector but that is expensive and
to get it to work properly it will need a new a factory callibration.
But still it is a nice detector as it is right now!

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector

Hi guys, As far as I know is the detection from neutrons based on PHD (Pulse Height Discrimation) and not on PSD (Pulse Shape Discrimination). That means that the detector considers every puls above a certain level to be a neutron. This principle is used in most portable detector systems, because go...

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector

If your detector has a 22B28/0.75MCSTXN inside it can only detect gamma's

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector

Hi guys, Turning on the neutron option does not mean it can measure neutrons! There are two different detectors for these unit, the first one is just a CsI(Tl) crystals for gamma's, the second one is a combination from two crystals in one detector CsI(Tl/LiL(Eu) that is the only one that can also de...

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector

Hi Massimo,
That is a good deal still not cheat but a real nice detector!
Did you know that we make all the detectors used inside your dosimeter ? so they are good for sure :-)

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector

Hi Massimo,
That is a great looking toy you got there, small and still with a lot of options to measure, very nice!
I am not going to ask you the price because I know they are really expensive but it still a great buy , I know you will have have lots of fun with it.

Re: CSI Detector

Hi Nicola, The detector is exactly as Tom described it, 13mm round, 38mm long, the crystal is CsI(Tl), the pmt R7400u. It is difficult to connect them because the pmt wires are very fragile and it is hard to find the right pmt socket. If it works you expect a resolution from around 7.2-7.5%@662KeV a...

Hi Steven,
Great idea and a nice design, interesting!
