Re: pin photo diode detection

Hello Silviu, I don’t think that it is possible to use a bare diode as detector for xrf , the efficiency of the diode is to small and if you want to do xrf the counter rate of the signal is very low therefore you will use an extreme long time to get an result then you will have stability problems. B...

Re: New type scintilation crystal test.

Hi Steven,

Most Lil(Eu) do not gif a good nice sharp peak look more like a blob , most important thing is that the gee of the neutrons are above min. 2.8 better >3.0 MeV.
So they are easy to separate with a simple window from all natural isotopes.

New type scintilation crystal test.

Hi Guys,

I have been testing a new scintilation crystal, with interesting results.
If you are interested, please read the attachement.

Re: Large SiPm array test

Hi Steven,

Please remember that the resolution is only because of the CeBr3 crystal on a good selected pmt it would give 3.6%@662KeV.
But the SiPm's are nice to play with if you want to make a small portable device, a array of 4 SiPm's is nice and still “affordable”.

Re: Another Fukushima soil sample (with coincidences)

Hi Michael, Nice spectrum you made really good! But you have to remember that the soil is ofcourse not just Cs_134/137 in the stones and sand there is also some natural Th228? and K40 in it. I have different soil samples and all are a little different in natural background, your sample is a mix of 2...

Large SiPm array test

Don't know what is wrong so I shall try to upload it again. Luuk Hi guys, Because I have my work at Scionix Holland b.v. a nice project with large SiPm array’s I would like to show you what is possible when you build a detector with it. I know that because of the price it is not real an amateur proj...

Re: Old lead

Hi Daniel, It is very difficult to compare two materials if you don’t have a good lead castle :-) to eliminate the background special if you take a long measurement to get enough counts to compare. Than you need two exactly(100%) the same size(dimension) and weight of lead, under exactly the same an...

Re: 180 CPM as Minimum Background radiation

Hi Mike,
You should try 5 to 10mm copper inside your leadcastle then a 10mm perspex layer that will reduce bgrnd to a minimal reachable.
