Re: Spectrum shifts to the left between run
Thanks all for your answers and docs, there is indeed a lot to learn of and it is very interesting ! In the meantime, I tried other runs at stabilized and monitored room temperature this time (the best I can). Drift still occurs (but maybe a bit less) even with measured 0.1°C / 0.18°F average differ...

Re: Spectrum shifts to the left between run
Thanks for your feedback jneilson. I've already read some papers on the light yield versus temperature of LaBr3:Ce detectors and it seemed to me that the deviation was pretty small at first. But given your feedback and this source [broken link removed - Steven ] I'll have to do more tests. What was ...

Spectrum shifts to the left between run
Hello there, I decided to build a graded Z-shield with Lead, Cadmium and Copper long time ago and I'm finally about to finish ! So I started longer-than-usual test runs with my LaBr3 detector and noticed I had my Cs137 peak left shifted between each 24h-long run (especially in the medium-high energi...

Re: LaBr3 intrinsic activity at 32keV ?
Finally, I found some interesting sources on internet mentioning 36 keV lines for LaBr3 : - https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1742-6596/798/1/012124/pdf [broken link removed - Steven] - https://www.mdpi.com/2077-1312/9/7/721 (most interesting one - "3.1.1 Energy Calibration") From...

LaBr3 intrinsic activity at 32keV ?
Hello folks, Long time I didn't do any spectro, so this summer (north side ;) ) I managed to get some time to do some again with my LaBr3:Ce detector GS-1010 and tried several times to calibrate from Cs137, Am241 and Lu176 and had a hard time figuring out why the 30-40keV range appeared to be not-li...

Re: Gerhard Bast
Hi Bast, Welcome on the forum, it's always a pleasure to have one more gamma-hobbist. Steven has indeed pretty nice products and advices ;) I'd be very interested if a HPGe would be released for less than the current market costs as well, but these pieces are out of hobbyist budget. Hope to see you ...

Re: LaBr3 and PMT
Hi Luuk and Tom, I indeed planned to use this recommendation about the pmt size since I read the possibibility that the photocathode wouldn't be homogenous. So SBA PMT is definitely enough for these crystals. Anyway, I planned to make this scintillator full homemade with detailed building steps (cho...

LaBr3 and PMT
Hi everyone, I'm planning to build a LaBr3:Ce probe this year and would like to have your opinion. LaBr3 having a really good resolution.. and being expensive, I will naturally privilege SBA or UBA PMT. I saw that there is a Q.E difference near 8% between these (see attachment) but SBA are often men...

Re: I am Tom Fisher a Newbie from Ketchikan Alaska
Hi, I guess it depends on the purpose you want to use it. Is it for low or high activity measurement, spectroscopy or only for counting? Have you see the condition of your crystal? If it was nicely sealed and no leaks occured, there may not be any problem. Otherwise it could be a problem, NaITl ones...

Re: I am Tom Fisher a Newbie from Ketchikan Alaska
Hi Tom,
Welcome to the group!
If you want to build your own scintillator or modify it, I guess and hope my previous post may bring you some enlightenments: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=108
Feel free to post your questions on the forum!
