Re: Australian Border Force clamps down on amateur scientist
That's really a shame for the guy and I hope he can make a good deal, but the problem with laws might be overwhelming or complex to most hobbyists, also the regulations can be quite confusing and hard to understand. I did quite the read and asked officials a few questions to understand the laws in m...

Re: 313CC Hytron tubes - Kr85 ? Ra 226 ?
I would go also say Ra-226. I have a copy of an unofficial source of vacuum tubes with radioactive isotopes ("Cliffs Radioactive Tube List") and there the 313CC / CB are both listed as Kr-85 and Ra-226. Its common that vacuum tubes use different isotopes, for example there are 0A2WA tubes ...

SIPT: My interactive periodic table
Hi folks, Since most of you are interested in science, I've decided to share my newest project. Besides radiation, my interests are in general science, electronics, and vintage devices. Around a year ago I 'v started to collect elements for a periodic table collection. A periodic table collection is...

Re: Is there SW to Label the Peaks with the Isotope's Name
Interspec also lets you label the peaks, you even can put an user-label on a peak if you want.
Also you can display reference peaks, for example the thin red lines in my image are "reference peaks" for CS-134

Lost Cs-137 capsule in Australia
Hi folks, I've read in our local news that a capsule containing Cs-137 was lost in Australia while being transported from a mine. More can be read here: [broken link removed - Steven] One thing that I notice, is that our newspapers always mention that the capsule is very hard to find and probably wi...

Jewelery from Scintillation Crystals
Hi folks, I follow a few mineral collectors' Instagram sites and therefore get recommended posts from similar topics, a few days ago I stumbled over a page that seems to be a gem cutter. Whats kinda special here, is that they used Scintillation Crystals to make "Gemstones" from them. Mainl...

Re: CapeSym CSI-14x25c-SIPM-T and GS-USB-PRO
SIPM and Scintillation crystals are temperature sensitive, depending on used crystal type. This might be an issue for a portable identifier device or similar application because that instrument should be usable in various temperatures, for lab application it might be not a huge problem. I've found t...

Re: Semiconductor Survey Meters
My guess is that most modern manufactured Personal Radiation Detectors use SIPM Technology, especially those with Spectroscopic functions. But since these devices are usually sold to a limited market there is not much information about the interior of these devices. One issue about SIPM is their tem...
