Re: Bicron Internal Voltage Divider
Steven, Thank you for that information. I'd seen conflicting information about similar detectors with some being built like you said and some having a removable crystal/pmt. I somewhat misspoke when I said it worked, it loads the meter down fairly heavily requiring the meter have very fresh batterie...

Bicron Internal Voltage Divider
I purchased a small square Bicron NaI(Tl) scintillator (.5X.5M3/.5L-X) a few months ago to use for general surveying. While it works well for the most part for that purpose, I've realized the voltage divider is too low of a resistance to pair well with my current meter so I'm considering modifying t...

Re: Help wiring a crismatec 1.25" NaI (Ti) scintillator.
Hi James, Did you ever get that detector working? I recently acquired a similar one with slightly different labeling but still a 32 SPE 50. On the label it lists the PMT as a hamamatsu R268. I'm probably going to try powering it up with the signal out to an oscilloscope and slowly ramp the voltage u...

Re: Greetings from Oregon
Thank you both for the advice, looks like I'll most likely be building one then. For portability and budget I'll probably get a new 1" crystal and look at some of those PMT kits. I'm pretty lucky that if I ever do find myself needing really high sensitivity and resolution I have access to the H...

Re: Radiodating using NaI(Tl)
Liz,
That research sounds very interesting, where along the river are the cores taken from? I recall seeing though that NaI(Tl) looses linearity below 100kev which may be an issue. That could be specifically calibrated for, but you might need two separate calibrations for 137Cs and 210Pb.

Greetings from Oregon
Hello, I'm Addison I'm a college student studying chemistry and have been interested in radiation and nuclear science about as long as I can remember. During the school year I work at the nuclear research reactor at my school which has allowed me to do some very interesting projects, including one o...
