Thanks for that. I had a feeling they might have under-engineered the thing.. Looks like the MHV and SHV have similar "tails" on them, so fitting either is going to be a challenge- hopefully not an insurmountable one!

Connectors..
I just acquired a high voltage preamp for a helium 3 tube (rather than rewiring a lower voltage version, with the final justification being that I might use the latter at some later date). The high voltage in is, as I would expect, an SHV connector, but the detector input appears to be a regular BNC...

Re: Preamp modification
Sadly no in-depth circuit diagram / manual is available (as is the case for most things made by Tennelec), so this is about as good as it gets right now!:
schematically it's the same as this, though:

Preamp modification
Ok, first silly preamp question.. What's to stop me from converting a unity gain scintillator preamp into one with sufficient gain for a proportional counter tube? I'm aware of the need for super smooth soldering and making sure components are sufficiently well spaced on the HV side to prevent arcin...

Re: Ortec 926 ADCAM MCB
That is unfortunate! I think (hope) we probably have the appropriate NIM-to-USB cable somewhere in the lab. I also gather there is a demo of Maestro which can be gotten from Ortec, how limited its functionality is I don't know- I've submitted a request to them. I guess if there's no way to interface...

Ortec 926 ADCAM MCB
I was shown a pile of the above NIMs in the lab today.. Can anyone point me in the direction of some some generic drivers for them and some open source software which will do the same thing as Ortec Maestro?

Re: G'day from Idaho!!
Hi Svilen- My PhD will be in Nuclear Engineering, so don't expect too much mathematical rigour! :P It's been a hectic couple of weeks.. When not rushing doing logistical things for the project and working on a fellowship I'm building myself a NIMBIN so I have something to practice setting up at home...

Re: G'day from Idaho!!
Many thanks! The initial double-posting may have been a browser issue- I saw nothing pending so assumed it had vanished into the aether..
I shall start picking shortly!!

G'day from Idaho!!
Hi- having been born in Australia and raised in the U.K. I'm now here in the U.S. doing my PhD. Right now specifically working on building an experiment involving neutron detection, so I'm here to pick your brains, and hopefully offer a bit of my own knowledge in return.
