Re: All you need is potential

Well that was a bit of an anti-climax.....! I have been waiting four years for the latest CODATA values to be published, hoping to see a drift in the proton electron mass ratio. Historically the values which were methodically and experimentally measured, but recently the committee decided to derive ...

Re: Help to Troubleshoot a Canberra GR1218 (HPGE)

Ruwan, I am not familiar with the Canberra GR1218, but I do have experience with clicking noises from HV supplies. What you describe sounds like a short across the board or across a capacitor, humid weather can make it worse and if it is allowed to short for a while, the track can become conductive,...

Re: IMPULSE V2.0

Marco, It is important to know the difference between the calibration points in PRA and in Impulse. PRA uses an interpolation algorithm between calibration points, which is linear between each point. IMPULSE uses three calibration points and applies a second order polynomial function. \[ax^2 + bx + ...

IMPULSE V2.0

Impulse code completely refactored This version has been a major rewrite, I initially set out to make a few small changes to speed up the program and make it less demanding on the CPU, but as things go, one thing led to another and I ended up refactoring the whole thing, to the point where my wife ...

All you need is potential

From time to time I write down some of my ideas on paper, and those who know me well, also know 'potential' is my favourite subject. Potential doesn't get enough attention, it's a ratio with units "energy per charge", and it simply means "ability to do work". Many scientists and ...

Forum Issues today

If anyone experienced forum issues today, it may be my fault...🤦

I was messing with my .htaccess file, hopefully it is now working again.

Re: Spark Counter and Bragg Peaks

Lucas,

Thanks for posting, very cool project and nice build.

I wonder if one could build a multi layered cube one with alternating ground and HV grids for detecting muons, might even be possible to see the direction of the muons.

Hmm 🤔

Re: Impact of detector efficiency on spectrum and dose

Interesting, Compton seems to taper off a lot more in the case of Co60, which probably proves my hypothesis is wrong. Maybe it was a combination of Compton energy and crystal size that resulted in the even energy distribution I saw. Needs more investigation... From a theoretical point of view I stil...

Re: Impact of detector efficiency on spectrum and dose

Nice work... I agree, Marek's Sum-Qty is not a very clear description. I was the one who initially suggested the feature, but my preference would have been to call it "energy per bin" but Marek didn't think it was right for a non calibrated spectrum so he settled on Sum-Qty which frankly d...
