Here is a quick comparison spectrum with PRA of an old clock face.

Re: 150KeV peak not U235?
Mike, Both of your theories are plausible, sum x-ray peak will land around 150 kV and some Compton back scatter from the higher energy peaks may also land around there. In PRA you could try running the spectrum with a very tight pulse shape tolerance ~ 0.5 to 0.8 this should eliminate some of summin...

Re: Semiconductor Survey Meters
Greg, I see no one has yet replied to your post. Unfortunately I can't be of much help as I haven't done much work with semiconductor detectors and SIPM's but it's on my list of things to do. Semiconductors operate with a very different voltage and amplifier scheme and as far as I know there aren't ...

Re: gamma spectrometer signal
Pawel,
Sorry for slow reply, I just got back from a weeks trip up to Queensland.
I just opened your audio file in Audacity and as you can see for yourself the tallest pulses are barely making it to 50 arb.u.
Your objective is to utilise the entire range.

Re: What is the actual half-life of Cs-137?
I would like to know why isotopes decay ?
Reason tells me, if nothing is changing in our world then nothing should decay, so what causes nuclear decay ?
Let's agree to avoid vague terms like entropy 😂

Re: gamma spectrometer signal
Pawel,
Considering it is sampling at 48 kHz, the pulses look about right.
Count rate seems low for a scintillation detector, but maybe you are shielding out background... don't know?

Re: Plateau and Efficiency of a 44-2
Greg, Without seeing the complete S curve it is difficult to verify your claim, 1025V does seem high for most PMT's. The objective of finding a plateau is to identify where the count rate flattens off before rising exponentially, so starting at very low voltages 500V you would get little of no count...
