Re: size of the cristal

Hi Peter, As Luuk said above, the resolution is not expected to be much different if at all. You may get a little bit more from the higher energies, a Compton continuum here a little bit lower, a photopeak there a bit higher, but I guess nothing that will be significant and worth redoing the shield....

Re: SI8B Pancake Geiger-Muller counter

Dear Geiger, Assuming you are not Hans Wilhelm Geiger, I would kindly ask you to include your real name and location in your signature and/or user control panel according to the forum rules. Specifying the price of the detectors will also be very helpful for whoever is interested in your offer, incl...

Re: Geiger Müller tubes on flights

Sounds like either the 8000 feet AGL thing is a relatively sand-bagged estemate or modern airplanes maintain they’re cabin preasure relatively well.
I think these both are true indeed.

Re: Pushing an Arduino to its limit.

Very nice project, Steven. I also experiment for several days now with Arduino, working on an environmental radiation monitor with two GM tubes and a data logger, maybe I share it later too, in case successful :)
I would be interested to see the code you used.

Re: Radioactivity in public

@ipelupessy Speaking about ethical issues, could you please add a signature with your real name since this is one of the few rules we all should follow here. You signed your introduction with "Inti", but it would be kind if we can see it under your posts too, thank you in advance.

Re: Geiger Müller tubes on flights

I guess nobody can guarantee it, but you may have good chances not to loose the tube. I got one Ludlum model 44-9 probe with a LND7311 GMT shiped all the way from USA to Europe in a non airtight container and it survived. But the producer warns in the manual that "The GM tube face can rupture above ...

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector

Hi Stefan,
This is really helpful to know, thank you very much! Well, there are some drawbacks, but if i need to measure something longer than 8h I very likely will not use this device, so this shouldn't really be a problem.
Greetings,

...the previous owner had already attempted to do some restorative work on it.
There's no reason not to do it than. And don't forget to show us the process ;)

Re: Greetings from the Southeastern US!

Of note are the Precision Radiation Instruments Royal Scintillator... Is this the model 118? I've seen that and it's a beautiful antique! We have technically better, but not that beautiful instruments nowadays :) I don't know if they are that rare in the US as they are here in Europe, but if so, be...
