Re: Help setting up PRA

Trevor, Thanks for posting the image... Sample Rate Change your audio input to 384 kHz sample rate 16 Bit left Channel, this will give you the best resolution. Note: the pulse shape will look more stretched out. Use Shape Method The use shape method box must always be ticked when you are collecting ...

Re: Hello from Seattle

Trevor,

Welcome to the forum. I would be happy to provide support when/if you need it.

A screenshot of your spectrum showing the settings and uncalibrated pulse height histogram in arb.u (arbitrary units) is the best way to diagnose any potential issues with your setup.

Cheers..

Re: gamma spectrometer signal

Pawel,

The pulse on your oscilloscope looks perfect, but the pulse on your audio input window looks very noisy.

My guess is you are listening to the internal microphone, not the detector, please check the Audio Interface is set to USB AUDIO CODEC - 384 kHz - 16 bit - Left channel.

Re: gamma spectrometer signal

Pawel, From what I can tell, the output from your circuit should work fine with a sound card MCA. The maximum pulse height of 2V might need attenuation as most sound cards have a dynamic range of 0-1.4 volts (some only 1.2V). The pulse length of 150 µs is perfect, at 384. kHz sampling you can even s...

Re: Hello from Jerry

Hello Jerry, Welcome to the forum. I hope someone can help you with your missing manual. I recall similar requests have come up before, thinking it would be a great idea to start collecting manuals in the resources forum. So anyone with old manuals predating the internet, could scan the document and...

Re: Plateauing a 44-2 with Cs-137

Greg, The pulse height threshold is usually set to a level just above electronic noise. All amplifiers and especially radiation detectors with inverters will have some kind of ripple on the baseline and for obvious reasons you don't want to count the ripples coming from the inverter. Old school surv...

Re: Plateauing a 44-2 with Cs-137

Greg, For what it's worth, I tested an old PMT without a crystal, over a range of voltages, with and without a source, what I saw was little or no counts up top around 850 Volts and then a rapid increase in the self count rate over this voltage. There was very little difference in the count rate whe...

Re: Who has the audacity to do this?

Nick,

Your best option is to run PRA software under Wine on Linux, it should work fine, I use the equivalent on a Mac.

The above is an old post from a job I did where I had to fit a recorder inside of a well logging tube, so the Pi Zero fitted nicely.

Re: Hi from Seattle

Thanks to "whatisnuclear" for reporting a problem with my gammaspectacular site, the customer registration page was returning a blank page. Since I usually don't open an account on my own site these bugs are hard to discover. Glad to report I found the problem and fixed it.
