11/1 Shield for Scionix 38B 57 (38mm NaI) Probe

Post by Sparky » 16 Apr 2020, 06:58

I have been adding lead wraps to this shield as I can afford to. It currently reduces Background from about 70 cps to about 6 cps. I have my work computer at home these days so I made a drawing of it.

What I like about it:
1)Cheap . I have about $120.00 in it.
2) I haven't see any Pb xrf that I can trace to the shield material.
3)It doesn't take up to much room on my bench.
4)It has a removable core that allows samples to be loaded from the bottom or top.
5)The core can be easily cleaned.
6)It is modular and can be moved easily.
7)It is mostly made from 3mm lead sheets and can be reconfigured for other uses later.

What I don't like about it:
1) I would like more BG reduction
2) It will only accommodate small samples.
