Ludlum Model 3

Post by Mark Rowley » 23 Dec 2015, 10:35

I'm in the market for a good used Ludlum Model 3 to support my spectroscopy system. For those in the know, is $300 a fair price for a decent unit without a probe?

Hi Mark - $300 is a fair price for a good condition Ludlum Model 3, especially if it is a newer version (has four visible screws securing the meter faceplate to the housing). Although you may also consider looking for a Model 12, which would be a better match for a scintillation detector. Of course the price would probably be more than a Model 3. Cheers, Tom

I managed to get one of the new ones (4 screws) for $275. Looks almost unused. Think I got a good deal. Looking now for a 44-2 or better to go along with it. Or maybe a 44-2 will be fine. Much larger and I will undoubtedly have scaling issues.

I'm sure sometime in the next year I will get a Model 12. Right now I'm in the process of slowly upgrading my portable systems. A Model 3 will be fine for the time being.
