Hello guys,
I just found this on ebay and I am not sure what exactly it is:

Do you have any info as to what scintillation material is in there, and how is it read out?

Big Scintillator, maybe with SiPMs?

Hi Lukas - I saw that a few days ago and wondered what the material might be since it is not stated. Most likely it is NaI(Tl), but could be something else. The model number indicates that the scintillator (maybe a crystal) is 8" diameter and 1.5" thick. Too bad there appears to be at least one dent in case, and if it's Nal, it could be damaged.
There is a flat side on the diameter of the case that probably has a window for attachment of a photomultiplier. I have asked the seller to provide a picture of the small flat surface looking face on into the crystal. I'll post it here if I get a reply.

I expect that it is a NaI(Tl) crystal, but because you cannot see the crystal it self I would not buy it, unless
the seller shows pictures from the interface side.
Can be wet who know? there is a sharp dent on it entrance window looks not so nice.
A crystal like that is made for mostly for counting it is very difficult to get a good resolution from this shape detector with just a
pmt on the side.

The crystal's color actually looks pretty good from the picture, but still hard to tell and it could be cracked internally. Luuk is correct about poor resolution and mostly only good for counting, even if it's in good condition.
It would be cool to make a PMT housing and extend it with a long handle curved on the end to use for prospecting low to the ground without having to bend over, or flip it around for inspecting under objects like cars and trucks. It's a bit overpriced for hobby use I think.

That's pretty cool, that would be a very good prospecting meter!
Resolution won't be good, but good enough to tell you if it's NORM or not.
It's just a bit too expensive for me at the moment, I'd love to see you do something with it, Tom!
Now, two of these on the other hand would be pretty interesting, some medium inbetween and look for cosmic showers etc!
