I ordered a 14x14x25mm SrI2(Eu) detector yesterday. They were testing it today. Hopefully I'll have it by the weekend. Thanks again for the info.

Rob,

If you have the time and inclination, could you post a few of the spectrum.csv files that you have saved in CapeSym MCA?

I'd like to import a spectrum into their software so I can try it out with real data. I don't have their MCA so I can't generate my own spectrum and I don't know the particulars of their .csv formatting to cobble up a file the software will import.

I am uploading a zipfile called SrI-MCA. In this zipfile are jpg and csv format spectra of the following -
Lu176, radium watch, ThO2, Na22, and Cs137
The detector used was a 14x14x25 mm SrI(Eu) detector coupled to the MCA from CapeSym.
The CapeSym software with a Windows 10 laptop was used.

My previous response to say "Thank You" must have gotten lost in the ether, so I try again:

Thank you for the files, they are very helpful. Those are nice spectra.

I have the same detector and my initial testing has made it clear that for the low activity samples requiring long runs, I'm going to need temperature compensation. The CapeSyn MCA provides ease of implementation, but the cost and my concern about being locked into their software have me exploring other options before going that route.

The images shown above (not the Interspec image) were made using the software supplied by CapeScint for use with their detector-SiPM-MCA device. The software has been evolving. I don't recall which version was used to make the above images. Earlier versions lacked the ability to show spectra other than with a linear scale. Subsequent versions added a log display and some other features, including temperature stabilization. The software is very easy to use and save spectra. The csv format files can be directly imported into Interspec, a spreadsheet, or using a "roll-your-own" program.

If one wishes to use a CapeScint scintillator detector with SiPM (without the attached MCA) with a PicoScope digital oscilloscope (e.g. model 4262 or 2204) spectroscopy results can be obtained with software from Maximus Energy. Earlier versions of this software could be downloaded from the Maximus Energy website. I have noticed that Max is now selling his latest version of this software for a bit less than $100 USD. The manual for the software can be freely downloaded; it appears to be improved from earlier versions. His Pulse Counter software can be purchased via ebay or from his website -

I have also used the various CapeScint scintillation detectors with SiPM with the Red Pitaya device and the free MCAPHA software.

Following are some results that I obtained using the Red Pitaya 125-14 device and using the MCA-PHA software. The results were saved as an ASCII text file and subsequently imported into a spreadsheet. The figures below are from the spreadsheet. The x-axis is not energy, rather it is just "bins".

The CapeScint detectors all were 14x14x25 mm using a SiPM. The detectors were powered using three 9 volt batteries connected in series. A 50 ohm terminator resistor was used. The detectors were all encased in a plastic box as shown earlier in this thread.
