Attached is a very handy document provided by Saint-Gobain that answers many questions about the efficiency of a variety of scintillation materials. Topics covered include detector counting efficiency, photopeak efficiency, and gamma and x-ray absorption efficiency of different scintillators.

Thanks for the handy reference..
Easy to see why the 2" and 3" NaI(Tl) scintillator is a popular choice, above 3" the cost to efficiency ratio does not make sense.
