Hi everyone!
I have perused the forums on occasion, and am amazed at the skills and knowledge of the members!
In terms of gamma spec, I have experience counting and analyzing ten of thousands of samples, from highly radioactive pressure tubes, moderator water, and medical isotopes, to environmental samples such as benthic invertebrates, insects, vegetation and building materials (and much more). Almost, anything you can imagine and I’ve probably counted it!
Also, I have experience with the purification procedures necessary to isolate certain elements/isotopes, to enable counting them without interferences on alpha specs, prop flow counters and LSCs.
I have performed basic maintenance on gamma detectors, and have a various kinds in the lab, but do not have experience taking them apart and fixing them. Some of the homebrew systems and old detectors that I’ve seen brought back to life by members of this forum, is truly amazing!
Even though I have a lot spectroscopy experience, and a lot of experience with radiochemistry and chemistry in general, I have A LOT to learn about the electronics. I’m thus, here to learn and seek help from those more knowledgeable and experience's. I have some old detectors with some issues, and would love to hear people’s thoughts on what is wrong and how to fix them!

Hi Magnetite,
With all your experience we would love to have you here as an active member, but our forum rule is "real names". You can either change your login handle to your real name if it is available or add a signature to your post with name and location.
I post on many forums and in my experience a real name policy creates a better experience for all without armchair snipers and spammers.

I also started out in an environmental radchem lab, so what you described sounds very familiar :) (although I left the separation chemistry to the chemists and instead focused more on detector hardware and data analysis). I've since moved more towards research and in-situ characterisation though, so have also counted some pretty unusual stuff - perhaps you and I can trade stories.
I'll see if I can help with your detector issues, I've done some detector electronics test work at board and component level before, although I'm sure there's others on here that are more of an electronics wizard than me.
