Hello from California

Unfortunately I want to do everything and I find myself having to prioritize.
I've mostly played with Geiger counters, teaching my kids about radioactivity.
My next project will probably be a scintillation detector, though I want to
learn more about gamma spectroscopy.
My background is electrical engineering, RF, lasers, optics, holography, along with
glassblowing (mostly hand blown, but have done some neon work).
I'm currently learning how to facet gems and am interesting in learning about
and making attempts at instruments relating to their identification.
Too many project, not enough time.

Welcome aboard, John! You’re definitely not alone in having more interests than spare time. I’m much the same - sometimes I even start thinking I’m into too many things and not becoming truly proficient in any one of them. :)

Here, you can certainly learn more about gamma spectroscopy (and perhaps even something about gems too - as far as I remember, Steven, the forum administrator, has jewelry as one of his main interests). ;)

John,

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, I know a thing or two about casting and polishing jewellery, but not much about faceting gems. Must admit I am out of that business now.
