Hi- having been born in Australia and raised in the U.K. I'm now here in the U.S. doing my PhD. Right now specifically working on building an experiment involving neutron detection, so I'm here to pick your brains, and hopefully offer a bit of my own knowledge in return.

Teyen,

Hi and welcome to the forum, I saw you posted twice which means you probably didn't realise how we manually approve your first three posts. Unfortunately it seems to be the only reliable way to suppress spammers.

We seem to have a few things in common, I too was born in Australia, grew up in Europe, ended up back in Oz experimenting with neutrons :)

Go ahead start picking everyones brains.

Steven

Many thanks! The initial double-posting may have been a browser issue- I saw nothing pending so assumed it had vanished into the aether..

I shall start picking shortly!!

Welcome Teyen! Don't know about you, but with this PhD in physics, we very likely would pick from you ;)

Hi Svilen- My PhD will be in Nuclear Engineering, so don't expect too much mathematical rigour! :P

It's been a hectic couple of weeks.. When not rushing doing logistical things for the project and working on a fellowship I'm building myself a NIMBIN so I have something to practice setting up at home before I get into the lab for my project in the fall. Also because NIMBINS are just old-skool cool. The preamp I found (bundles with a ton of hookup cables) was a unity gain one for a scintillator- probably (I think) good for shaping a timebase pulse that will be simulating detector events but no good for He-3 tube power or signal, so at some point I may be building a secondary preamp for that.
