Max count time in Theremino

Post by P2potter » 24 May 2024, 13:53

I have been analysing some very low level sources (lanthanum, various rocks from local areas, old vacuum tubes, etc) in my NaI/GS-USB-PRO setup. I built a new castle with approximately 2cm of lead, and pewter and copper sheet shielding which reduced by background significantly (~8cps). However, I am using Theremino and the maximum count time, as far as I can determine, is 99999 sec, ~27hr 40 min.

While this is generating pretty good spectra, is there a way to increase the count time to something more convenient, such as 48hr I have read the online manual, but it is not obvious to me how to do this.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,

For very long count times I recommend using PRA, it will give you superior post analysis functions.

In PRA you can change the intervals post recording and select from and to times etc using the advanced filter.

Steven,

Thanks for the suggestion. I am not a huge fan of PRA (I feel like I am reinventing the wheel every time I come to use it, and try to remember exactly how to set it up properly!), but I will give it another go.

However, has anyone else had any success in using Theremino in long count situations?

Thanks,

Phil

To answer my own question, I have figured out how to do unlimited time counts in Theremino.

In the 'Options' tab on the main window, under the 'Timers' section, if -1 is put in the 'Stop after sec' box, the program will count indefinitely.
