Transferring Spectrometer data to a .csv or .txt file

Post by GammaGlarg » 13 Jul 2024, 08:58

Hello everyone, I am a physics student currently working on calibrating a NaI(Tl) detector for our gamma ray spectrometer. We are primarily using Ortec equipment and software. That being said, it has been really hard trying to collect numerical data from our runs into a something like a .txt or .csv file in order to "do physics" with the results on platforms like matlab! Has anyone had this issue as well? The Maestro PRO software manual does not mention anything about exporting data to a spreadsheet (at least to my knowledge) and was wondering if anyone can help out? We are using the latest version of Maestro PRO. Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you all!

Welcome to the forum!
The .chn files that maestro spits our are encoded in some way, or maybe just raw bits, looking at them in a text editor they appear to have some ascii in it, including the date and time when the spectrum was taken...
Try using interspec, that can take pretty much any spectrum file and export it as anything you want!

GigaBecquerel thank you so much! I finally got it to open the data as a .csv file! You've really helped us out a lot!
