Introduction to Impulse Video

Post by Sesselmann » 25 Aug 2024, 20:01

Hi Guys,

I finally got around to making a video introduction to Impulse, hopefully some find it interesting.

Hi Steven, Looks like Impulse is continuing to gain features and refinements. I have a couple of suggestions regarding the calibration. One - consider allowing more data points, perhaps up to two or three dozen; then use a least squares methodology to get a best fit of a second or third order polynomial. I have some examples of this on my postings for the SrI detector topic - I just used an Excel spreadsheet to do the least squares fit and plot the calibration curve.

If you don't want to expand the number of data points, then perhaps one could enter their own coefficients for the polynomial (e.g., as taken from the Spreadsheet fit).

Rob,

Thanks for feedback.

Yes calibration can be improved, although if you know the energies of three dozen peaks you probably don't need a spectrometer haha 😂

I'll check out your post and see what can be done in future versions.

Rob,

Check out the latest version of Impulse 2.1.5 I expanded the calibration points to 5 and modified the code so it can handle anywhere from 1 to 5 calibration points. When given less than three it simply does a linear fit.

There is technically no reason not to allow three dozen calibration points other than fitting more fields on the page or adding another tab, but let's see how close we can get with this.
