Post by luuk » 10 Dec 2019, 05:38

Hi Guys,
I did recently a refurbishing on a large 5" inch NaI(Tl) detector and made a report about the whole process with lots of pictures!
If you are interested please read the attached pdf.

Luuk
Wow! Very nice work as the results show. I'm glad I was able to help with this project by providing the nice ADIT PMT. Congratulations also to Svilen on the nice resurrection of his detector.
If anyone else would like a nice hobby price on these excellent 5" PMTs, please send me a private message.

Luuk,

Thanks for sharing your project and giving us an insight into the mystery of canned NaI crystals.

I am interested in a source source of teflon, looks like you have it on a big roll, but I also understand if it is a trade secret ;)

Nice detector.

Great work Luuk, the improvement is impressive, I can imagine the amount of time and effort required to get there.
Svilen will definitely be delighted with it.
I'd be curious to test a 5''x2'' to see how much more you can get from such a large size.

Anyway, I have a complaint, you should have used the font of the last two lines in the rest of the document as well. I fight hard to make sure nobody in my office uses Comic Sans in any of our documents! :)

Yes, "delighted" is the right word :)
Outstanding work from Luuk, simply beyond any description! Thank you very much for that!
Special thanks to Tom for providing the PMT and for the "friendly hobby price"! Thanks to Luuk's colleagues that helped too!

Unbelievable results, having in mind the starting condition.
Unfortunately I can not immediately try it, since I have to build a voltage divider first, but as soon as I get some parts, I will.
Thanks Luuk for the great report too, I'm sure everybody here appreciates this, since it is rare to see. After his detailed description there, I guess there is nothing much left to be said.

Massimo: Unfortunately for you but this is my hobby and I do it for fun so I will keep my Comic Sans font for these report,

Hi Luuk,
Thanks also from me for this nice and detailed report! It was very interesting to read and see the progress and how this nice detector looked like new in the end!
