Hallo, my name is Gerhard Bast and i am living in Germany/ Europe and i am completly new to this forum. I am a physican (medical doctor) and retired. So, i have now time enough to find out, whats going on with gammaspectrometry, which i had done in study and in the clinic.Beginning with several Geiger Counters i own, i wish to go further on with gammaspectrometry. Industrial made counters like nanodaider from FLIR or Radey or Identifinder from Thermoscientific are so expensive,i would not afford. So, looking per internet,i found this page and ordered GS and awaiting for delivery.
Mr.Steven Sesselmann was so nice, to give me advice with USB power source and an USB Soundcard.
The principles are easy, only a crystal, a phototube and a high volatage source and a sound card all connected with a Laptop. So i must not use an expensive MCA.(Theese things are very expensive). But the difficulties come on interpretation on what i measure, and there i have to learn a lot, special in the software.
My friends working in radiology use other counters, most of them germanium crystal counters cooled down with liquid nitrogen, but perhaps beeresearch will produce one ? Not to expensive ?
I can get a lot of liquid nitrogen from the clinic.
I have some other (expensive) hobbys (aviation and scuba diving), but not so much in winter time, and this is good for gammaspectrometry.
So, i will join this forum and hope to get answers for my questions. And i apologies for my bad english.

Hi Bast,

Welcome on the forum, it's always a pleasure to have one more gamma-hobbist.
Steven has indeed pretty nice products and advices ;)

I'd be very interested if a HPGe would be released for less than the current market costs as well, but these pieces are out of hobbyist budget.

Hope to see you soon.

Yvan.
