Here is a couple spectra I took yesterday to check on how my uranium extraction is coming along. Currently I'm doing acid extraction of milled ore, followed by precipitation of ammonium diuranate and transition metals. I set aside a 1 gram sample of the ore, then collected a dried 1 gram sample of precipitate. Both samples were tested for 12 hours.
I also made a shield from garbage. Well, not garbage, but miscellaneous things I had in my shop. A 10 mm thick tungsten tube encased in 25 mm of lead in a... soup can. Works out to 4 half value layers for radium. It's a beast too, just over 10 kg.

Is the first peak the tungsten XRF? You should see one around 60-70 keV.

Yes, I do believe that would be the tungsten. I was using a 1 inch NaI detector for ease of use, but I'm working on making a detector that will be shielded from the XRF.
