Below is a one hour spectrum of K-40 recorded from a kg of Potassium Chloride with a GS-MAX-8000 and GS-1515-NAI detector. The radioactive isotope of potassium is a naturally occurring and exists in all living organisms, bananas and brazil nuts have relatively high concentrations of Potassium. The main photopeak is more prominent in larger scintillation detectors. This isotope has a very long half life of 1.277E+9 years.
