ATOM SWIFT Personal Alarming Dosimeter

Atom Swift is a compact keychain radiation dosimeter designed to work with a smartphone or tablet PC. It is capable of detecting and measuring low-level Gamma, X-ray, and Beta radiation. Alarm thresholds can be set by the user.

Radioactivity can be measured to discover the amount of radiation a material emits or the amount absorbed by a human. Example uses include personal radiation protection, surveying land/building materials, and vehicle inspection. The Atom Swift is ideal for use at home, work, educational settings, or on the go.

Atom Swift contains an ultra-sensitive scintillation crystal detector (CsI crystal and silicon photomultiplier) capable of detecting low-energy gamma and X-rays.

The detector and associated electronics are housed in a robust polycarbonate housing, small enough to hang on a keyring, and powered by one CR2032 lithium battery.

Free apps are available in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). The app processes information gathered from the scintillation detector and displays readings on-screen. The app allows you to choose measurement units, set dose rate and accumulated dose alarm levels, and configure various other parameters.

Standalone Use

Atom Swift can operate in standalone mode if wireless communication is unavailable. It has three user-programmable dose rate and accumulated dose thresholds with distinct alarm signals. These thresholds can be set for standalone mode, and accumulated dose data can be accessed after re-establishing wireless communication.

Work Modes

Atom Swift operates in two modes: Search Mode and Measurement Mode. These can be toggled via the smartphone or tablet app. In airplane mode, Atom Swift continues operating in standalone mode.

Search Mode

In search mode, Atom Swift prioritizes fast responses to radiation dose changes over measurement accuracy. You can choose between “Fast,” “Balanced,” and “Accurate” modes in the app settings. This mode is recommended for surveying land, vehicles, and construction materials.

Measurement Mode

In measurement mode, Atom Swift continuously gathers data until manually reset. Statistical error decreases with time, and new measurements can start by pressing “Reset” on the app. This mode is ideal for detecting low-activity sources by comparing background and source dose rates.

Change Settings

Atom Swift has no physical buttons. Instead, it uses an accelerometer for setting changes, controlled by flipping the device 360° along planar axes.
